Comprehensive Area Assessment

What is it?

Comprehensive Area Assessment, or CAA, is a new way of assessing local public services in England. It examines how well councils are working together with other public bodies to meet the needs of the people they serve. It's a joint assessment made by a group of six independent watchdogs.

Assessments will be made publicly available every year and will provide an annual snapshot of quality of life in the area. The first results will appear on a new oneplace website which will be launched on Thursday 10 December 2009

Further information on the CAA.

CAA timetable

Happening now: CAA leads and other inspectorate staff are talking to their Local Strategic Partnerships and relevant organisations to pull together all the information they need to make their assessments.

September/October 2009: CAA final assessments shared with local partners. There will be a period of review before publication where significant disagreements about red flags or organisational assessment scored judgements will be resolved.

Early November: Resolve any remaining reviews.

Thursday 10 December: Launch of public website. First set of CAA reports published.

Early 2010: We will publish a number of themed reports on what we have learned from the first round of CAA.
